The first Faro Convention International Conference will be held in Porto, Portugal, from 29 January to 2 February 2024, focusing on community participation and co-creation within the principles and aims of the Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society, broadly known as the Faro Convention.
Bearing in mind the shared responsibility for cultural heritage and public participation established in the Faro Convention, the Conference aims to introduce and discuss the state of the art and practice of the Convention fostering the debate and examining the pros and cons of community participation and co-creation strategies in urban management processes within Education, Research and Practice.
We invite practitioners, professionals, researchers, and anyone interested in the subject of community participation and co-creation within heritage and urban management to present their work, which may be a completed project or one in progress.
The official language of the conference will be English, hence all Abstracts must be submitted in English.
Participants are encouraged to contribute with abstracts proposals relating the following themes:
(1) Co-creation heritage strategies in Education/Training - Innovative participation tools/actions in educational projects and programs in heritage studies;
(2) Research on co-creation in urban heritage practices - Recent research trends, challenges, and opportunities of co-creation approaches in the management of historic urban landscapes;
(3) Co-creation in heritage Practices – Cases of co-creation, private and public, from a small to a large scale, around heritage management, urban planning and governance.

Instructions for authors:

All Abstracts must be submitted in English;

Abstracts exceeding 300 words will be rejected. Please indicate at least one e-mail for further contact;

The scientific committee will select the papers to be presented during the sessions and the others will be invited to submit a poster;

Posters accepted should be produced in an A1 poster format and will be exhibited in a public space. Authors will have 5 min to present them during the Walking Tour;

At least one author (corresponding author) is expected to register and attend the Conference;

Accepted authors (papers and posters) are required to submit full papers after the conference (max. 3000 words single-spaced), which will be published in the conference proceedings.
